The Irish Penny Pub

Salisbury, MD

The photo before you is certainly not one of my beloved Reuben’s in way, shape or form. It is actually “Mac & Cheese with Bangers”. Why? Well, it makes for an interesting story (IMHO)…. So, I had been trying to research a place to eat a promising Reuben during my upcoming business trip, and found a promising one at “The Irish Penny Pub” in the city we would be visiting in 3 weeks for a business trip. We were going to an area that is known for blue crab and I wanted a Reuben, but my co-workers were okay with that as long as we had seafood one night. So 3 weeks went by and I was at the Irish Penny Pub with five of my coworkers. I set up my Canon point and shoot on the cheap travel tripod I brought, and started adjusting my settings to get the best photo given the poor lighting conditions and taking practice pictures. The time came to take our orders and I ordered the Reuben, asking a few questions about it and letting them know that I wrote a “photoblog” dedicated to Reubens, so make it look nice. What I did not know was that a couple of my coworkers had plotted to tell the waitress to come back after the order was placed and tell me that they were out of something needed to make the Reuben and find something else off the menu to order. About 5 minutes after our orders were taken, the waitress comes out to tell one of my coworkers that their refrigerator had died overnight and most of the food they needed for her item was not available and to pick something else. Then they told me that the corned beef was also a victim of the refrigerator’s demise, and for me to pick something else. One of my co-worker’s started laughing and told me about their “plan”, but it happened all on its own…I settled on the $12.99 “Mac & Cheese with Bangers” for some reason. Bangers I found out is sausage. Some type of very mild sausage- like a breakfast sausage. The Mac and Cheese portion was ok, but the sauce a bit on the runny side. I doubt I would ever order this item again unless it was some sort of ghost pepper sausage that was being used. I am not going to give the meal a grade, I just thought that I would share the story and picture, since I had gone through all the effort getting the camera set up and all.

Hmmm. Very brave to try something else given their equipment problems. Great story.

Well, at least the picture came out well. It does actually look pretty good, but with food, looks can be deceiving. ~V~

A fine image and an interesting story. I love Irish sausage, probably because I do not like things too spicy, although I do like Italian sausage too. For whatever reason, I do no feel like any kind of sausage goes well with Mac & Cheese, but I have not tried it. :) V

Your picture looks great and so does the food. I'll bet the Pub would be impressed with it."VVV"

Great story. I guess we have Mac and Cheese with bangers a lot here, except ours is Italian sausage and it is off to the side of the Mac and Cheese. Delicious. V

Love the story and frankly the cheese and bangers doesn't look very appetizing. V
