The Bank union occupies the building to the right (seen in the previous frame; indeed if you look carefully you can see this skull in the window next door on the far left of the frame), the tomb of a dead guy (Dante) is just down the road to the left; is this some kind of metaphor for job cuts in the finance sector?

Probably not.

But then I don't think it's necessarily what I'd want to have as a window ornament either.

I think this may be a ceramic workshop. There is no sign to that effect; there is a blackboard to the left of the main door but the writing wasn't just incomprehensible but somewhat illegible. (What I first thought was a capital Q, I later realised must have been a lower case cursive a, for example; "Q chi" makes no sense but "a chi" (to who/whom) does.) I did however notice a number of ceramic vases and similar objects on display shelves inside.

In any case, it was "a sight of interest".
