Ravenna was the only part of the Emilia Romagna region that we got to visit on the 2016 trip, and in fact the word "visit" is being charitable. Essentially we were given a couple of hours over lunch to explore the city, which went about as well as you can expect. In short, after we returned and I started to research more information about Ravenna I realised exactly how much we had missed.

And the stop in Ravenna did not, I think, do the city justice. Although we stumbled upon an absolutely marvellous little pasticceria in one of the back streets, we didn't see anything that had the "wow" factor of our previous stop in Venezia, nor (as we would discover) our next stop in San Marino.

I doubt that this is a fair assessment of Ravenna, however. I suspect that if we had a couple of days to explore it (and to research it first), we would have gotten much more out of it.
