Sierra La Sal

Arches NP, Utah

early Spanish explorers in this region, here during hot weather, could not believe there was still snow on the nearby mountain range, and so assumed the white must be salt...hence the name Sierra La Sal...in English this is of course La Sal Mountains, curiously now pronounced 'La Sail'...the view is from a hilltop on the right (east) side of the main park road between the Fiery Furnace turnoff, and the stop for the trail to Broken Arch

This gallery keeps drawing me back. This image could be used as a visual definition of Arches in the winter. The incredible colors of the rock contrasting with the cool colors of the mountains covered by snow. Almost a warm/cool mood even thought I know it had to be cold where the image was photographed. Add in the superb lighting and you have what I consider a spectacular capture in all ways David. VVV
