Yet another seemingly abandoned commercial building, but I'd be really fascinated to know what this one once was. In Switzerland, there are cows everywhere. Pictures of cows, billboards of cows, souvenir shops full of cows, sculptures of cows… But in Italy, less so.

Nonetheless, here we are still in Italy and there is a sculpture of a cow chewing a flower standing on the roof. I'm also curious as to "the roof of what"; I can't help but wonder what this place once was, especially that building that is jutting out from the main one.

Okay, I have some further information. I had forgotten that Street View has historical views as well. It appears that the land and building was (or possibly still is) owned by a dairy cooperative by the name of Latteria Sociale Valtellina. This sign can be seen (not in this shot) at the entrance to the car park, though it's looking a little run down these days. In the Street View shots for 2010, the building had a large sign on it reading "Colavev". Now apparently this was a restaurant although in the 2010 shot you might not think so. However in the 2011 shot it's extremely obvious since the words "Ristorante Bar" feature prominently on the windows. There wasn't any cow there at that time.

The next time that the Google van passed was not until 2015 when the "Colavev" sign had been removed leaving a wooden sign (one which looks rather older and may have been underneath the Colavev sign rather than replacing it) reading "Latterie Valtellinesi". (The plural for both the dairies and the regions.) Accordingly, it is safe to assume that this building was and possibly still is owned by the dairy cooperative, but that their attempt at doing a little bit of vertical integration by opening a restaurant didn't work out. It's a pity; I would have been interested to sample their cheeses but it seems that I was half a decade too late.
