Hole... 20140524_5556

This drilled hole in the sandstone is about 50 feet (15 m) from the canyon rim. The hole was about 10 inches (25 cm) deep. The black markings on the bamboo hiking stick are 12 inches (30 cm) apart. I have seen a similar hole in the Jeep trail in Pritchett Canyon. Does anyone know why the holes were drilled?

Shot during a hike that started at the visitor's center in Dead Horse Point State Park and followed the canyon rim to a point overlooking the blue evaporation ponds of Intrepid Potash.
