Treehopper nymph (Telamona excelsa)

Reveler Conservation Area

This treehopper nymph is on its host tree, bitternut hickory (Carya ovata). I was alerted to its presence when I saw a line of ants heading purposefully up the tree trunk. They protect the treehoppers from intruders and in return, get to feed on the sweet honeydew the hopper exudes.
