A series of five photos showing the moth caterpillar introduced after years of rigorous study and evaluation, as one attempt to control the seriously invasive Dog-strangling Vine/Pale Swallowwort. The caterpillars have overwintered successfully in their controlled study plot. It is hoped that they survived this past winter and that the adults will fly off and find swallowwort locations outside the study plot and begin the work of controlling the plants. Of course, this is a multi, multi-year approach, and work continues to find other species that will eat other parts of the plant. These caterpillars are leaf-feeders only.
