The Apadana Stone Relief

Persepolis, Iran

Procession of conquered people offering tribute to the Achaemenid king, Darius the Great, bas-relief, north stairs.

The stone Reliefs depict twenty-three gift-bearing delegations each in its own national dress, and separated from the next by a cypress tree, each group being led towards the central panel.
A courtier leads the first delegate of every delegation by the hand.

Darius the Great built the greatest palace at Persepolis on the western side. This palace was called the Apadana and was used for official audiences.
The work began in 515 BC and was completed 30 years later by his son Xerxes I.
The palace had a grand hall in the shape of a square, each side 60 metres (200 ft) long with 72 columns (each 24 metres tall), thirteen of which still stand on the enormous platform.

What a privilege to be able to touch and capture this...
The light on those stones from the sun is the same that was there at the moment of carving... Amazing no ? Cool shot of a piece of history.
