Souq Waqif, bird souq

We were interested in seeing the Falcon Souq so I asked directions, and this was where we ended up. Not a falcon in sight, but a lot of parakeets and bunnies! Note: We asked more people and subsequently found the falcons.

Souk Waqif is a major attraction in Doha for tourists and locals alike. There has been a souk on this spot for centuries, but at one point the old complex was close to being condemned for demolition, until some enterprising person realized its potential and redeveloped it to resemble a 19th century souk complete with mud-rendered shops, exposed beams and restored Qatari architecture. The souk keeps expanding, and despite the redesigned construction, Souk Waqif is considered to be one of the most traditional marketplaces in the region.

Posted earlier, men’s wear at the souq:

Always great these animal corners on a market. In Antwerp we have a sunday bird market.

This image surprised me. I would not think, bunnies in this area. Sorry that you did not get to see any falcons. V.
