Men’s wear on display in the souq. My first reaction was that it was for tourists, but on second thought, I’m not so sure. Normally I would have cut out the left side of the scene, but I liked how it showed the exposed beams in the ceiling as well as the fact that the clientele is local. Also interesting that in Qatar, the heads of mannequins can be shown, whereas in Saudi Arabia, they're forbidden.
Souk Waqif is a major attraction in Doha for tourists and locals alike. There has been a souk on this spot for centuries, but at one point the old complex was close to being condemned for demolition, until some enterprising person realized its potential and redeveloped it to resemble a 19th century souk complete with mud-rendered shops, exposed beams and restored Qatari architecture. The souk keeps expanding, and despite the redesigned construction, Souk Waqif is considered to be one of the most traditional marketplaces in the region.
