For 500 years cut off from the rest of the world, the hilly Morrocan town of Chefchaouen ("Chef") near Tangiers still feels light years away. Jews escaping Spain's Inquisition in the late 15th century were said to be the first to paint the town cool shades of blue, the color of divinity in Judaism.
