Canadian tiger swallowtail larva (Papilio canadensis)

Typically these caterpillars are green, but this one is about to pupate and just before they do, they turn brown as here. When I came back to check on this guy, 30 minutes later, he was gone, so hopefully to pupate and not as somebody's snack.
