After we had laboriously made our way over one of the countless mountains (see picture below for an example of the kind of treacherous roads we took everywhere), we stopped at a parking area where locals were selling honey out of their trucks. We already have a lot of honey from Asir at home which we received as a gift, but some in our group were haggling with this guy for a better price (he started out at SAR 150, or $40, for a kilo of honey, which seemed pretty high, and settled for SAR 75). Asir is a very enterprising province that produces honey as well as fruit and I’m sure many other things.

I thought this vendor, who is also selling sheep's butter, was quite interesting and asked our tour leader where he thought he was from (maybe Yemen?), but he said he was Saudi, just from an area where they dress quite colorfully. I liked the dagger at his waist (not sure if it’s too visible in this picture).
