This looks like a normal clothing concession, but some of the items for sale were a bit surprising, if you look closely, and especially sold by a man (who had left the stall for a moment, thankfully). There is currently a “feminization” campaign in progress to employ Saudi women in shops that cater only to women, but I guess that hasn’t yet hit souks like this, where even the abayas are sold strictly by men.
This souk was definitely not an easy place to take pictures – a lot of locals, merchants everywhere, just a normal market that’s not a tourist attraction (so if you pull out a camera, you immediately attract attention). As a result I didn’t take many pictures, just of a few things that caught my eye for being different, like this one.
