This was taken this morning (Saturday) by Tim with his cell phone. President Obama met with King Abdullah yesterday (March 28) out at a desert retreat, and then Obama and his entourage of 800 from Washington took over The Ritz-Carlton along with a few other hotels here. There was a “Meet and Greet” with the president for US Embassy staff and their families, but I chose not to attend, despite the opportunity for photos (which is usually enough to make me go anywhere and put up with any amount of inconvenience). Due to incredibly heavy and time-consuming security measures (and it wasn’t even for the general public), it was going to be a six-hour morning for a half hour “encounter,” and in addition wooden barriers had been constructed to isolate Obama from the embassy community. I certainly understand the need for security, but the whole thing didn’t set well with me, and I decided not to go (so I have no pictures of my own).
