This door was titled “Mamluki Door” and was filled with fascinating designs and inscriptions. It was my favorite exhibit because of the colorful reproductions on either side of details of the door.
I’m a bit behind on commenting because I went to a designer’s shop for some abayas after work this evening! Eman, the designer, was marvelous and a person I would love to get to know. She is incredibly creative and in the short time I was there (an hour and a half) gave me an insight into both abayas and Saudi Arabia. She has a fantastic collection to choose from, so it was hard to make a decision, but I ordered two to start with. I am sure I will be a good customer of hers – if I have to wear an abaya in public, why not make it stylish! Actually, I don’t dislike the abaya; it’s the headscarf that drives me crazy because it keeps falling off.
An article about her is here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-13372186
