I took this picture while visiting Tom Galbraith in Colorado in 2005; it hung on the wall of his guest room. In the early 1970s, copies of this poster hung on the walls of the Recreation Center at Wiesbaden Air Base (now Wiesbaden Army Airfield) in Germany. Here's the story...

In 1972, while I was in the Army in Wiesbaden, I attended a bicycling information meeting held at the Recreation Center. Tom had organized it and conducted it. We became buddies and I bicycled with him frequently on local one-day trips. He was a civilian employee of the Air Force and the type of person who always was involved with some sort of project.

The bicycling activity evolved into a small company that conducted bicycling and hiking trips for Americans. (As I recall, he led a few backpacking trips in the Swiss Alps and went to the Sahara Desert with a used Land Rover he bought.) One day, during the planning phase of the enterprise, we were siting in his apartment wondering what to call it. Several ideas were uttered. The discussion ended when the word "Eurtrip" (a play on “your trip”) fell out of my mouth. Sweet memories...
