In 2005 I visited Tom Galbraith, a fellow I hung around with a lot in 1972 in Wiesbaden, Germany (I was in the Army; he was a civilian government employee). This visit was the first time we had seen each other in about 32 years. At his Colorado residence we looked at slides I had taken during our time in Germany (photo is on my Flickr account).
It was Tom who introduced me to three things that mean a lot to me.
In the order of their introduction they are:
1. The type of sleeping bag I still own (the Unimog, a hoodless style that was made by The North Face in the early 1970s) (photo is on my Flickr account)
2. The Swiss Alps (backpacking at Kandersteg was cool); and
3. The woman whom I later married.
Photo taken by Stanna Galbraith (thanks, Stanna).
