SMC_LRGB_final_M.jpg

Tivoli, Namibia

This wide field image was taken with Canon 40D and Canon EF 130mm f/2 L lens, stopped down to f/3.5. Exposure was 13 x 5min @ ISO 800. I am working on good processing flow for DSLR images, at the moment it is:
- open in Astroart 4.0, save as FITS, extract Luminance, safe as FITS
- stack FITSs images in Maxim to obtain master RGB and master L
- open L in Photoshop using NASA FITS liberator, process using curves, levels, sharpening etc
- open RGB in Photoshop using NASA FITS liberator, work on saturation and color balance
- paste L as luminance and complete processing

The 47 Tuc area has been blended from a higher resolution image taken with Takahashi FSQ85 and SXV-M25C CCD camera. Taken under dark southern skies at Tivoli farm in Namibia.

Interestingly, emission nebulae within SMC turned out pale blue on this image. I think it is due to the fact that these emit strongly also in OIII line, which is well captured by DSLR. An even stronger Ha red emission is just on the border of DSLR sensitivity and overpowered here by OIII. Actually, DSLR can capture red emission nebulae - as in many other of my images - probably when the interstellar gas mixture is different.
