Slime mould (Lycogala epidendrum)

These are tiny but very pretty slime moulds, found on rotting logs spring through fall. When fresh, as here, they are a lovely salmon pink, sometimes even a true pink, but as they age, they attain a nice bronzed patina.

This reminds me of something we used to have appear like magic when we ordered our mulch in bulk. Now that we switched over to bagged mulch, we no longer have problems with these molds appearing. Don't know if they're related to your mold or not...
