To move the 4800 here, we removed the heel rack (6,500 lbs), the counterweight (24,000 lbs) and the 72" grapple (5,500 lbs) to drop 36,000 lbs off.
A separate truck was hired to haul the heel-rack and counterweight (nearly a load on thier own) and a Madill service truck hauled the grapple.
This machine was equipped with a longer stick (originally for Butt-N-Top) and had 55 feet of reach with a 72" Jewell grapple on the end of it.
Hampton Lumber Company purchased several Madill 4800 loggers during the time I worked for Madill. Today (2011) I believe they own at least
5 of the 4800's and several other Madill 3800 machines as well. Here are some pictures of a Madill 4800 travelling from Kalama to Willamina.
