Evening surf, Mission Beach, San Diego, California, 2010

The sun is already dropping below the horizon as a surfer raises his arms, saluting the end of his day riding the waves. If we listen, we can almost hear him shout. I am sure his small child is doing just that.

I look forward to seeing your images of the sculptured columns at Vigeland in Oslo -- I know that they are churning with physical activity. And yes, this man seems to be demonstrating his enthusiasm for his child and in a way, symbolically lead the way for him into the future. We can only hope that the child will remember the moment.

Having just been to the Vigeland Gardens in Oslo and spending some time contemplating the dynamics of children and adults - I see here the parent surging into the future leading the way for the child.
