Red-bellied snakes (Storeria occipitomaculata)

These two snakes were curled up together under a rock. These gorgeous little guys are mostly nocturnal, except at this time of year when they may be found out and about, seeking a site in which to overwinter. On sunny days like today, they will find south facing rocks which soak up the sun and hide underneath them, seeking warmth. You can see the colour variation in this species here!
