The original name of "Chihkan Tower" is "Fort Provintia". In Chinese, Chihkan means red roof. The Fort Provintia is a Dutch name.
In 1653, Dutchmen occupied and governed Tainan and they built this fort for defense.
Due to the damages by wars and the other reason, the former fort was knocked down for over 100 years.
