It's amazing to watch the sea lions feeding in the bays and rivers and I caught this one just as he (she?) caught his afternoon meal. From December through April, they gather on the east side of Vancouver Island to feed on herring and salmon that are returning to spawn. They are very social and noisy animals, and groups often rest closely packed together at favoured haul-out sites on land, typically log booms and docks.
