Waterfowl on the Lake

Lower Klameth National Wildlife Refuge, California

We were so amazed by the scenery and number of birds in this wildlife refuge that we decided to return to the area and spent two more days there enjoying the local sights and viewing the migrating birds. The Lower Klamath NWR, established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, was the first waterfowl refuge in the United States. Consisting of 46,900 acres (190 km2), it includes shallow freshwater marshes, open water, grassy uplands, and croplands that are intensively managed to provide feeding, resting, nesting, and brood rearing habitat for waterfowl and other water birds. We highly recommend this spot for bird-lovers and wildlife photographers.
