Ruth, its a nice composition, would like to see more detail in the bird as thats the main subject. I notice you shot in Matrix, I would try Spot metering and metre off the white on the bird and see how it goes.

I think the gull is captured well, the water color is lovely, and you are spot on with its eye. I would like to see how a tighter crop might affect the composition

Subject is interesting, color and detail is good - nice reflection. On the composition, a crop on the bottom and to the right would put him in the bottom third of the image and might give overall better balance. Overall, nicely seen and captured!
