Hard to believe I haven't posted since the end of June! Between family, work, and school it's hard to find (make) the time sometimes.
Yesterday I drove from Bainbridge Island to Mt. Hood Oregon to drop my 2 eldest stepsons off at the beginning of their 10 day summer hike. On the way back I stopped in Tumwater, WA at a little park. I stopped because for many years I have seen this building from the highway. I had always figured it had been part of the Olympia Beer Brewing facilities and I was right.
Built by Leopold Schmidt in 1895, the original brewery operated until prohibition when the family tried to make juices and jams, but eventually sold the brewery to a milling company. At the end of prohibition the Schmidt family built a new brewery just up-stream from this location. I think it is now owned by the Miller Brewing company.
