Assynt.

Ardvreck castle, Assynt, Scotland

Ardvreck Castle is a small ruined tower on a narrow spit of land that juts out into Loch Assynt. It is a fairly insignificant building and difficult to isolate against the bulk of Quinag beyond, especially when both are illuminated. One solution is to climb a little higher and then the castle and spit of land are isolated from the far shore, in doing so the ruined house in the foreground also becomes part of the picture and to my mind adds to the sense of desolation that these vast open spaces in the North of Scotland are renowned for.

It is a story of 2 s-curves; nature's on the left goes on forever; on the right man's culture and civilization crumbles and falls down yet the road follows the greater one.

Hi Mark

I would probably agree but these days everyone is so obsessed by end of day light that virtually nothing gets shot in the type of light that the public would normally view it in and oddly it is this more familiar light that sells best to the public. This is actually about as late as you can shoot and still have sunlight striking the castle, a large hill cuts off the sun soon after. The shadows of the house give you a clue to the lateness of the afternoon light. For the record I have a twilight version which I will post next for interest and comparison.

Beautiful shot and while I truly love your work which is fantastic I think for this one the sun is a bit "high" on the day.

Beautiful composition nontheless.

As well as carefully choosing you view point you seem to have managed to arrange the clouds as well!
