Joop's Dog Log - Friday June 11

Sure had a great time yesterday on Schiermonnikoog island.
A big beach hike, extra treats, sunshine, sea breeze.
I still have sand in my fur, and the smell of a dead seagull I rolled around in... ha!
We were all very tired when we came home last night.
My humans have to worktoday, so I can rest...

Today is the funeral of uncle Ronald Reagan.
I believe he was a good human and a wonderful grandhuman. I`m glad his suffering is over.
He was an important mental coach for the American humans.
And his administration had the courage to end the Cold War,
with the help of Mikhail Gorbachov and his `glasnost-perestroika`-policy.
I`m not sure uncle Ronald was also a great president, he came up with some strange stuff.
But that`s all water under the bridge now.
I`ll remember him as uncle Gipper.
Think I`ll win one for him today...

Lovely island. Great way to spend a day, I think. As a President, Ronald Reagan made a good actor. Actually, he wasn`t that good an actor, either.

Hoi JOOP. Heerlijk he zo door het duinzand te scharrelen. Is weer eens wat anders dan door de straatjes. En als je vies bent van het zand neem dan een heerlijke duik in de zee.
Schiermonnikoog lijkt me heel mooi. Nog een heerlijke zandwandeling en tot morgen.

He wasn`t the greatest president, but he was a good human being. He loved his country, his people, his family, his wife. He lived a long, full, happy life. And he did a few wonderful things. And that`s more than most people can say. I am definitely very sad to see him go. I`m so glad you had a great time on the island!!! You look so happy here! I hope your humans can rest up this weekend!!!!

By golly, you DO look like yr having a good time, Joop. How fun! As for Ronald Reagon, well, those of us who live in California, where he was governor, have some strong feelings. He gutted the affordable education system in this state. And he was responsible for "dumping" a whole lot of people from mental institutions, far increasing the numbers of homeless in this country. I was not a fan of his politics. Nonetheless, I`ll give him a facility of speech, and a wonderful way of giving American humans a sense of hope and of confidence. And heaven knows, his last ten years must have been truly horrible ones, for him and for those who loved him. Altzheimer`s is just NOT a dignified way to go! No one deserves that! Let`s just hope that his having the disease means that the cure will be found sooner. Stem cell research - YES!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you had a fun day. About Reagan, everyone has their opinion; no one is perfect, he had his good points & his bad points. In a way, he was gone long before this week, Alzheimer`s steals what makes you, you! In any case, thanks for the kind words about him.

Thank you for your kind words about our deceased president. He sure could captivate a crowd! We do not want to speak ill of the dead, and he many wonderful things said him about him and many people from around the world were at his funeral today. Glad you had a wonderful anniversary celebration at the beach! Do you have to have a bath after that seagull incident? kisses and licks, Max

Ah, Joop, look at all that beautiful sand...glad you had such a good time. I am always so surprised your human knows so much about American history and politics. I wonder if that is true of most humans in your country, or if your human is just specially smart. About Reagan...I don`t think there is a single Republican president with whom I can agree. I see the nannish one has pretty much covered what he did to California and he did some of the same kinds of things to the U.S. But he was an optimist and he could inspire hope and confidence in people...he also had a great sense of humor. And unlike our current president, who likes to compare himself to Reagan (God help us), he could put two complete sentences together in a row. On balance, I liked him...more for him as a human than for his policies.

Joop, your human sure likes to stir up the political soup! - I am saddened by Mr. Reagan`s passing, but his illness robbed so much of his "essence" from him and his loved ones. I`m happy he`s at peace now.
