Joop's Dog Log - Sunday May 02

Wish I could tell you another nice little story about my life, but I can`t today.
Iraq is on our minds.
We cannot compare Iraq to Vietnam, said GWB.
But then why does everything seem so familiar?
The US and British governments trying to hide the number of dead soldiers and their names.
A determined and fanatic enemy. Sending more and more troops. No control over the situation.
No end in sight. The reasons for the war unjust and blurred. Frustration.
The `clean war` changing into a dirty one, abuse of prisoners and dead bodies:
British soldiers urinating on a shackled detainee,
sodomy and beatings by US soldiers at the Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad,
Iraqi civilians abusing American corpses.
And many humans in Europe and the US are getting tired of the whole affair.
They don`t want to hear the news from Iraq anymore, they`ve given up protesting,
they hope it will all just go away...
My Sunday message is: Spain is right, we have to get out of there ASAP:
Americans, Brits, and also the Dutch and other peacekeeping forces. Out!

Hi Joop. I can't express how much I, as an American, agree with you and support all you say. My wish and desires for an end to this atrocity in Iraq cause me much pain and sleeplessness. Here is a website link, to keep people in touch with what is REALLY happening there!! CLICK HERE to see just the US death toll from this "conflict".....The media is controlled by the government and they don't want us to KNOW this!! Just focus on sports and entertainment news, everyone....Forget that 19 year old boys are DYING for George Bush....

Please people, let's end this!

Right on! We, the U.S., should have never gone back into Iraq. Now that we have, admit our mistakes, try & establish an infrastructure there, and leave.

Goedemorgen Joop. Wat lig je hier mooi op de foto. Je bent een geweldige mooie hond. Heldere ogen en een goed verzorgd vacht. Wat ga je vandaag weer ondernemen? Nou ik zie het morgen wel weer. Een knuffel van mij Joop. Groetjes DIEN.

I agree with you, Joop. There are a lot of places where it needs the money that they spend in the Iraq war...money to fight against hunger and illness.

Joop, you are so sweet. And why do you concern yourself with things human. Humans are stupid, and some are more stupid than others. But you are a dog and your job is to be present in the moment. You worrying about Iraq does not make it better . Go and run around in the woes uh, woods.

I agree Joop, the Americans and Brits need to relinquish their control (or lack of it} in Iraq. Chloe Bear says thanks for choosing her to reign as DogMiss this week

Hey Joop, It`s never as simple as the way a dog would handle it. I hope Bush hands over the reigns to Kerry, so that we can begin the leaving process. Meanwhile, I have fleas and ticks to worry about, so we`ve started the medication for this season. Hope it works again! -Sarah.

Joop... always take into account the fact that GWB is a liar. (though he`s not self-aware about it). "And many humans in Europe and the US are getting tired of the whole affair. They don`t want to hear the news from Iraq anymore..." Actually, I`d prefer there not BE any news from Iraq anymore.

Joop, my darling, I agree that the appointed, unelected American president is not straightforward with the truth, or maybe is too self-delusional to see the truth beyond what his puppet-masters tell him, but ... I don`t think we should leave Iraq now. We shouldn`t have gone in there in the first place, but to leave now would be to let it descend into total anarchy. As they stay in the shops: "You broke it. You buy it." We are all paying for it now, in lives and in money. We must restore Iraq to some civil order before we leave, I believe, because it would be inhumane to do otherwise. The U.S. needs what its leaders were too arrogant to ask for before: A true coalition of nations to help Iraq.

Dear sweet, Joop, this morning Katie, Ranger, and I went out to hike in the Huachuca Mts. Arizona. We hiked up the Canyon crossing bubbling mountain streams and watching deer dart through the forest by the path. The sun was bright but not over the rim of the canyon yet so it was cool and breezy. There was not another human in sight or hearing. All peace and serenity. It is hard to believe we were on Ft. Huachuca a U. S. Army Post. We are an Army family; my husband is a retired Ranger. It saddens me so see our wonderful country getting mired again in this kind of mess again. Every time I hear of another member of the military [any country not just the U.S] I think terms of people not politics. I think of wives, children, husbands, mothers and fathers, and sisters and brothers who will never see that loved one again. And the doggies too who will never again hear the familiar sound of their master`s voice or get a gentle belly scratch from their mistress`s hand. But, it isn`t for doggies to be concerned about. We want you to have the best safest lives we can give you. Let us worry about such things. While Ranger sleeps in the sun and Katie naps on her bed by my desk their Mom works tirelessly for the Democratic Party and for an end to our portion of world madness. So, Joop just go take a nap and don`t be anxious all is not lost and there are humans out here working to make things right. {Ranger, Katie, & Motoca @ dogster.com}

My human, too, remembers Vietnam and often visits the graves of her loved ones long ago lost. It is all to familiar. We can not give up here in the state saying NO. I feel our humanity slipping. You discribed it very well, dear Joop. We whole-heartedly agree. (nice photo by the way, you are lovely, as always.)

You certainly have a sweet look here, Joop, for a dog thinking about the horror that is now known as Iraq. I think we will leave...I think like Viet Nam it is not a "winnable war"...whatever the hell that means. But bush has to be tough guy..."bring `em on" he says...well they`re comin`, and we ain`t doing so well. IF Kerry wins, I think we will get out of Iraq. American Imperialism...God help us!!!!

Well...the one to get out is the self-centered "player" who was selected by the Supreme Court of the US. Apparently he gives new meaning to the practice of government-as-public-relations given the way Bob Woodward's book describes him as constantly gauging whether or not his rhetoric will ring plausible to "Joe Public." Joe Klein, in Time magazine, quotes a senator who told him that "I've never heard him talk much about policy substance or details, but he senses every nuance of interpersonal relations. Every question he asks is transactional. 'If I say X to Chirac, how will he respond?' 'Would this line work with Senator Y?' He prepares himself carefully. He knows exactly how to work you."
Aside from the oil, we're in Iraq because our player in chief likes to make decisions whether or not there exists any rationale for said decision. He's not likely to allow his administration to be seen as second guessing itself. We're stuck; and in the words of Colin Powell, we broke it and -- unfortunately -- we own it.

Amen to that.
