Joop's Dog Log - Friday Feb 27

More snow! Better late than never. I`m happy.

Around 1100 Dutch peacekeeping soldiers are in southern Iraq.
They have a difficult job. It`s difficult in many ways.
On December 27 soldier Eric saw a looting Iraqi human. He fired a warning shot.
But the bullet ricochetted off a wall and killed the looter.
Soldier Eric was arrested by Dutch MP`s, flown home, and put in jail.
And now our chief justice wants to bring soldier Eric to trial because Dutch military instructions
`didn`t authorize him to fire his gun in a looting situation`.
It`s brought on a national debate.
How can soldiers keep the peace with their hands tied.
With shame everybody in my country remembers another Dutch UN peace mission, in 1995
in Srebrenica, Bosnia. An army of Serb militia captured the city,
took 7.000 male Muslem humans to the hills and killed them.
The Dutch peace soldiers did nothing to stop them,
they had instructions not to use their weapons...

Let`s all keep our paws crossed for soldier Eric today!

I can't help but wonder what happened to Erik. I'm sorry the Dutch got pulled into this crazy "war." I hope it was proved that Erik did nothing wrong. Are they only allowed to use their guns if someone shoots at them first (and hope they are alive to shoot back)?

Thanks for your support Joop.... And I will be back later...
About Eric. How can a soldier be a soldier if he can`t shoot. What else can he do? Hand out flowers to those looters to hope they stop looting? It is ridiculous.

Good morning Joop,
you looks great in the snow. Oh how funny the snow comes back.
And paws crossed of course for Eric. He`s just a tool of the forces.
But the idea of smiling_da_vinci may be not the worst. Hand out flowers can bring more peace than armed soldiers - I believe!

You`re looking exceptionally handsome this morning Joop. The snow agrees with you, I think. (But then, you have that nice coat to keep you warm.)
My paws are definitely crossed for Eric.

Mahlzeit, Joop...much to do as usual on Fridays...and regarding this topic Bosslady has the biggest problems to come to a moderate statement and seems to sing in same squire as Knuddel. Little boss Nick didn`t join the armee, he had chosen the social civil service which she was so proud of. It is hard to say what you feel having a son like Eric "at the front"...we wished the world wasn`t like this, but as long arms bring profit to the corresponding companies.......

Indeed...what a story. I just can`t believe that particualar `rule` in war conditions. It would make me stay out of the army, that`s for sure. I guess all countries have their craziness, and people like Eric in your country and others in my country get caught and punished for rules that should never have been made in the first place.
Joop, please keep us informed as to what the decision on Eric is.

Oh, yeah, I forgot. I`m glad you got some snow. I know how much you have wanted that white stuff...and you sure look like you`re having a good time following those tracks...whatever they are.

Hope the snow doesn`t hurt you`re early spring flowers, Joop; and that your countryman, Eric is released. Those who created this mess belong in jail.

Beautiful foto, you are almost camouflaged!I`m sorry to hear about solider Eric & hope it works out in his favor.
it`s so hypocritical & sad.
I am also upset over how Haiti`s being allowed to self-destruct until `they` decide enough`s enough.
Joop, you live in the best of all possible worlds & that`s why visiting you is such a pleasure.

Our thoughts and prayers are out to Eric. We are so grateful for the many nations working together to help Iraq become a free country. May they succeed, and help to bring peace to our world.
