East Glacier Park Station, Montana (1912)

This station, operating as a seasonal stop for one of Amtrak’s long-distance passenger trains, was constructed two years after President William Howard Taft designated Glacier as a national park, from the timber of giant firs and cedars from the Pacific Northwest.

Building materials include Henry Lauder’s walking stick and willow in the supports.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp

*****

We went to the United States Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit titled “All Aboard,” which showcases historic train stations from around the country made almost entirely from plant materials.

It does look like a haunted house with the twisted trees and surreal setting. V

Ingenious use of the Harry Lauder's Walking Stick twigs. We were gifted with a tree 20 years ago which we planted in our woods. Unfortunately, it didn't get enough light because surrounding trees got much taller and shaded it. It's just a skeleton now, although I cut a lot of branches to put in vases.
