Flooding on the Potomac River

In a dramatic (and temporary) departure from my Hillwood Estate gallery, this was the Potomac River at Great Falls Park on Saturday. We have had heavy rainfall for the last six days, and the river has reached flood stage. The picture below is what Great Falls normally looks like.

The power of nature in this capture is totally amazing. I would have never thought the water would rise to these levels. My daughter and her family were lucky that they did not have any flooding in their house in Arlington. Their neighbors were not so lucky. V

Great shot. Never seen it flooded from the Virginia side. Went up to the Monocacy Aqueduct today. The rivers were overflowing onto the picnic grounds, and the debris had piled up against the aqueduct. Will post pictures some time.

An amazingly powerful and dramatic shot. That is seriously high water; the comparison to earlier days is striking. V

A very treacherous looking waterway at this stage easily increased in width by tenfold! V

Wow, that's a dramatic difference! When I talked to my son he said there has been so much rain. Been bad here too but not that bad! V
