We visited the headquarters of the American Eagle Foundation today, the reason for our trip to Tennessee. It was interesting to see some of their 82 birds of prey, but the one I really wanted to meet was Challenger, a bald eagle who free flies over such events as football games to the tune of the national anthem. He was rescued as a baby in Louisiana when he was blown out of his nest and was raised by well-meaning humans. He imprinted on humans and for that reason can’t be released to the wild.
For more information on the amazing work the foundation does, go to http://www.eagles.org For a video of Challenger free flying, see http://www.eagles.org/meet-our-birds/bald-eagles/challenger/
