I slipped away from work for a few hours on Thursday to revisit this exhibit since I realized I had missed a lot of displays. What a difference a weekday afternoon makes! There were no crowds until I was leaving, and I was able to walk right in rather than waiting in the cold for an hour. It seemed lighter in the gallery, yet still, pretty dark for pictures, and I found that the exhibits I didn’t photograph before were the more challenging or hard to access ones. I’ll be posting a number of new pictures, the majority of them fairly quickly.
Detail from the snow plow engine that runs around the Kennecott mine display. I thought this gave a good idea of how natural materials are used for most everything in this exhibit, with cinnamon sticks in the front of the engine (clearer in the picture below) and an acorn for the smokestack.
