Meknes in northern Morocco and was an imperial city in the late 17th to early 18th centuries. It is surrounded by 40 kilometers (25 miles) of walls punctuated by a number of magnificent gates. We unfortunately only spent a few hours here as we had to get to Fes before evening, but the city has much to offer and would definitely be worth spending more time in.
This picture shows a small part of the extensive walls surrounding the city.
