On the road, Fes to Erfoud

We drove all day today from Fes to Erboud, near the Sahara Desert. On the way we crossed the Middle Atlas Mountains, where it had recently snowed. I guess I never imagined this kind of scene here, but there was a good amount of snow still on the ground in the vicinity of Ifrane, known as “Switzerland in Morocco," and people were sledding down the hills as shown in this severely cropped image. Our driver had been in Irfrane two weeks ago and showed us a picture he had taken in which the town looked like a winter wonderland.

Looks like they know what to do with it too. I'd be happy to send them some more, have plenty to spare. Great shot and narrative, Helen!

Amazing!! Almost looks deliberately "put" there but believe it can do so and your lovely shot proves it! V

this hardly jives with the desert scenes we are all used to...must have been refreshing though..

Another unexpected find! Snow mixed with sand. I had heard about skiing in the Atlas mountains, but I would have never pictured it like that with pine trees to boot.

Effectivement, un endroit enneigé près du Sahara c'est assez bizarre! Une très belle trouvaille! V
