Housing boom (10) and a funny story

This is the scene outside our gate – even in very residential areas is there construction. It’s simply everywhere in the DQ. I’ll certainly be unhappy when they finish these buildings because they will definitely cut down on our privacy and light.

Sahraa, our Kuwaiti desert dog, is let off her leash as we approach home because there is nobody around. She has taken to racing up and down the gravel pile and has even burrowed a hole in it. She loves it and the chance to run free, if only at a construction site.

The other evening, my husband was out walking her near Al-Kindi Plaza. As he tells it, a car pulled up and a large family got out. Tim tried to steer clear of them because people here are so afraid of dogs. The man, who appeared to be Saudi, asked Tim if his children could “say hello” to Sahraa, so Tim brought her close and sat her down. The man’s four children lined up and all waved at Sahraa. Then they left. ☺

What an interesting story! I think that the Saudi's are fascinated with dogs; tis a shame that the gov't isn't quite as fond of them.... V

I find your tale of the kids waving at Sahraa quite endearing. I bet there are some Saudis who do like dogs, As for the development - ugh. Sounds as bad as Ottawa! V

That is a great story, Helen. I can picture them lined up and waving at Sahraa. Too funny.

It sounds like Sahraa is becoming quite an ambassador. Very appropriate for the DQ. What's up with Saudis and dogs? 1v

Love the story! After that encounter I bet Sahraa is thinking what the heck was that!

A dreary view from your gate ! Love the story of Sahraa and the children - the encounter will probably make a big impression on them.

Wonderful that the children were so interested.
Looking st your construction site ,have to wonder how stable is the upper storey of the second building on the left.Sad you will loose privacy and light...V

Sahraa is making inroads in the dog appreciation category. Hopefully she is totally trustworthy and will be a good ambassador. Riyahd will not be the same after you leave!
