The stairs lead to the Batlló family apartment. The lateral terminations of the stairs, carved from wood, are like the vertebrae of a spinal column, said by some to be the dragon after which the roof was modeled. The wall is stuccoed and painted with forms resembling a large trencadis, the mosaics made from ceramic shards that appear everywhere in Gaudí's work (and in this gallery).
