Editor of The Green Mountain Emporium at Montpelier, VT 1838 - 1840; Middlebury Vermont Free Press, 1840; Democratic Plowman, 1842 - 1843; Farmer & Mechanic, New York City, 1847 - 1848

Moved to Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, New York in 1844

Entered the practice of law in 1849

Received the honorary degree of A. M. from Rutgars College, NJ 1855
