An un-named individual proceeded to the armory of the Massachusetts Arms co., where he requested that a Maynard rifle be made for him while he remained there and saw it rifled and shot. The barrel was finished and put into the hands of Mr. Z. E. Leonard to test. Mr. Leonard shot it at 200 yards in the presence of the gentleman ordering it... Ten consecutive shots made with a Maynard rifle at a distance of 200 yards. Barrel round, 32 inches in length, weighing about 6 ½ pounds, .38 calibre, 50 grains of American Rifle Cartridge-powder, patched bullet, weighing 330 grains, shot from a rest, and barrel cleaned after each shot. Shooting done at Chicopee Falls, Mass., January 15, 1887. The photo in the magazine indicates the black to measure approximately 2 1/16 inch diameter - fine shooting indeed!
