Backwaters of Kerala

The slightly curved stone near her head is used for washing laundry. She will raise a wet garment above her head and slam it down on the rock... thwap... over and over again. The sharp sound of wet fabric hitting the stone is similar to the snapping of a large branch and was quite loud, disturbing the morning tranquility. The scene, with the same piercing sound, was repeated throughout the morning.
