Located in remote southeastern Oregon, Steens Mountain is a place for which the word "awesome" is sadly deficient. No photographs can ever expect to capture its full grandeur, but here are some of my attempts.

If you are able to visit the Steens, I encourage you to drive to the east side to get another perspective on this fantastic mountain. While you are there, visit the alkali flats of the Alvord Desert, soak in the Alvord Hot Springs, and take a short hike to fascinating Borax Lake and its nearby hot springs. Plus, you must stop by Fields Station if for no other reason than to have one of their milkshakes, which are the best that I have ever tasted (try the blackberry).
