Flight over Kailua-Kona and vicinity, Feb. 2008 For us a Hawaii vacation is not complete without renting an aircraft and flying around these Islands. Actually we planed also to repeat our Jan. 2007 Flight and fly again out of Hilo toward the this year spectacularly active Kilauea, but the weather was not on our side. Prevailing instrument conditions denied us this opportunity, and so we settled for a flight on the dry side of the Island, and even than haze and low clouds prevented us from climbing to 9000' and looking at the Mauna Hualalai's caldera. We explored the shoreline from Kailua to Kealakekua Bay, where Captain Cook lost his live. We also saw the Pu'uhonua o Honaunau park from above. On the way back we diverted past Kona-airport to see some of the migrating whales. |
