Pu'uhonua o Honaunau Historic Park This is the largest of all historic parks in the state of Hawaii. Pu'uhonua Park has a well made official web page with a virtual tour of the site. Park offers stunning visuals and numerous unique exhibits for all interested in history and Hawaiiana. Most of the site's wooden exhibits is a reproduction based on sketches made by William Ellis in 1823. You may now read two of his original books directly from your screen:
Polynesian Researches, During a Residence of Nearly Eight Years in the Society and Sandwich Islands Weather was not on our side, not even on the "dry and sunny side of the Island." I would prefer to have some blue sky as a background for these artifacts, however maybe the white/gray aura is in fact more appropriate with its almost "spooky" look? In old times, this was not a joyful place. |
