sordid

the sordid trio of increasing poverty, widespread unemployment, and widening economic inequality are three factors behind this day of protests around the world, including here in Vancouver...it remains to be seen what long-term impact the demonstrations will have

A very clever representation of the unfortunate, and I fear unsolvable, state the world is in. Great image, though. ~BV~

they will have the impact... i am from a country that was deep in the bottom..
but we broke all rules of power's elites.. we disobeyed all askings of IMF.. and we are at top economy now....
it deserved to protest! always!

The world is leaving confused moments. Excellent image to represent the theme!

A thoughtful caption...here in protest central, the movement is growing, and I hope the message is heard loud and far!

I hope the demonstrations don't just peter out but have a positive effect. However, your image:- great find, a whimsical theme to make us temporarily forget what ails our world. V

It's a story repeated across the developed world - an unprecedented upheaval which has shaken the lives of so man y who mostly had no part to play in the events leading up to economic crisis.

Excellent photo to go along with your thoughts. It is time for a change and you are right, it will be interesting to see if these demonstrations will help with that change. Let's hope so and hopefully they will remain peaceful. V

Matt Johnson wrote a song back in the 80's called Heartland. The words are more relevant today but sadly, those in power continue to exploit the 99% for their own ends.

Beneath the old iron bridges, across the victorian parks,
& all the frightened people running home before dark,
Past the Saturday morning cinema--
that lies crumbling to the ground,
& the piss stinking shopping centre in the new side of town.
I've come to smell the seasons change, & watch the city,
as the sun goes down again.

Here comes another winter, of long shadows & high hopes,
Here comes another winter, waitin for utopia,
waitin for hell to freeze over.

This is the land, where nothing changes,
the land of red buses & blue blooded babies,
This is the place, where pensioners are raped,
& the hearts are being cut, from the welfare state,
Let the poor drink the milk, while the rich eat the honey,
Let the bums count their blessings, while they count the money.

So many people, can't express what's on their minds,
Nobody knows them & nobody ever will,
Until their backs are broken & their dreams are stolen,
& they can't get what they want, then they're gonna get angry!
Well it ain't written in the papers, but its written on the walls
The way this country is divided to fall,
So the cranes are moving on the skyline--
Trying to knock down--this town
But the stains on the heartland, can never be removed,
from this country, that's sick, sad, and confused.

Demonstrations in 1968 had impact; these will have too. Ideas do not respect national borders or boundaries. These ideas are potent and carry the message of equity that if unheeded will require the tiniest minority of population to live in walled cities, every fearful. As with the 19th century English Reform Bills, British Parliamentary concessions averted the continental upheavals.

Sordid, is one was of putting it, and a good example is the State of California spending more money on incarcerating criminals than on education. Politicians, corporate greed and our dysfunctional system have failed us. I'm afraid these three crows may be the sunny side of the equation. "V"

at least here in the US, kids are buried in student loans and they can't find jobs...if they seem to be the majority (not all of course)of the protesters it's because they are........harsh times indeed....these sordid crows do not begin to illustrate the depth.....V
