Roseate Spoonbill

Spoonbill have pink bodies with red highlights, long spoon-shaped bills, and white necks. These fall birds did not have the beautiful red/pink plumage one would expect during breeding season, but you may pick out some hints of their pink color in some of the photographs. These are fairly large birds (about 32 inches with 50-inch wingspans, about the same as a Great Blue Heron). According to iBird, they are “resident along the Pacific Coast of Mexico, south and along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Yucatan Peninsula.” They are also found in southern Florida and throughout the West Indies, though they sometimes stray farther inland.
