According to iBird, they feed on minnows, small crustaceans, bits of plants, and insects. They forage by swishing their spoon-like bill from side to side in shallow, muddy water. Shallow, muddy water pretty well describes the Spring Creek Pond pool we found them in. Here is a picture of one that was foraging there that afternoon.
